Ten projects that have shaped who we are
Reaching 10,000 followers on Instagram gives us a natural moment to pause and reflect on the projects that have shaped who we are.
The ten projects featured here span our core services — Country Estates, Heritage Restoration, New Build, and Extension & Renovation. Each, in its own way, changed how we approach the work that followed.
This is not a list of “best” projects. It is a reflection on formative ones. Projects that taught us something lasting — and continue to inform how we build today.
1. The Wildings
New Build
Project Partners: Peter Mikic Interiors, Azman Architects, Tom Stuart-Smith
Press: The Times, Architectural Digest, ELLE Decoration
Set within a sensitive rural landscape, The Wildings required a considered approach to scale, siting and materials. The project reinforced the importance of restraint in large country homes — ensuring that architecture responds quietly to its surroundings while delivering complex, high-performance living spaces. It also helped shape our thinking around collaboration, technical coordination and building homes that feel anchored to place rather than imposed upon it.
2. Wallingford Farmhouse
New Build
Project Partners: India Hicks, David Flint Wood, Nichols Brown Webber, Herrington & Associates
Press: Architectural Digest, Vogue
A fully bespoke country home commissioned from scratch, where close collaboration with the client and detailed, made-to-measure work from Barr Build, Barr Kitchens and Barr Joinery was essential to deliver a cohesive architectural and interior experience — from structure to finish.
3. Hollow Brook Barn
Extension & Renovation
Project Partners: Ordinary Interiors, Kd Design
This conversion of a concrete-framed agricultural building into a distinctive family home deepened our understanding of how to honour an existing structure while achieving quality, comfort and sustainable living.
4. Jesus College, University of Oxford
Heritage Restoration
Project Partners: Cliveden Conservation, Swan Farm Studios, Savills Architecture
Working within an iconic academic setting reinforced the importance of precision, respect for historic structure, and thoughtful sequencing when operating in an institutional heritage environment.
5. Cotswold Farmhouse
Heritage Restoration
Project Partners: Ptolemy Dean Architects, Vanessa Macdonald for Melissa Wyndham
Restoration at this scale, sensitive to classic stone architecture and rural context, strengthened our commitment to materials that feel right for their place and character.
6. Stonor Park
Country Estates
Project Partners: Historic England, Nick Cox Architects, Price & Myers
A high-profile country estate project that reaffirmed the value of stewardship and careful conservation planning, where every decision carries long-term responsibility.
7. Cotswolds Estate
Country Estates
Project Partners: Giles Quarme Architects, Studio Ashby, Synergy LLP, SFK Consulting, Sawyer Fisher
This country home marked a significant moment in our understanding of estate-scale complexity and coordination. It brought together the renovation of a 17th-century farmhouse, the construction of an oak-framed pool house with a green roof, new stables and outbuildings, and the integration of sustainability infrastructure, including ground-source heating, solar arrays and energy storage.
Project details coming soon.
8. The Grange
Country Estates
Project Partners: Jane Duncan Architects + Interiors
A distinguished country residence with rich architectural heritage, where every material and proportion decision reminded us of the balance between legacy and contemporary use.
9. Otterly Farmhouse
Extension & Renovation
Project Partners: Anderson Orr
An extension and renovation that balanced sustainable retrofit thinking with historic character — helping shape our approach to modern performance in heritage settings.
10. The Old Vicarage
Extension & Renovation
Project Partners: Samantha Todhunter Design
Press: House & Garden
The renovation and extension of this historic vicarage reinforced the value of a fully integrated approach. Alongside the building works, bespoke elements by Barr Kitchens and Barr Joinery allowed the interior architecture to be considered with the same care as the house build itself. The project helped shape how we coordinate structure, joinery and kitchen design so that new interventions feel coherent, considered and entirely at home within a period setting.
