Barr Group doesn't often step into the awards arena — we believe our projects and our partners should speak for themselves.

Winning the inaugural Workplace Culture Award at the 2025 National Master Builder Awards (MBAs) last week shone a well-deserved spotlight on the teamwork which makes our projects possible.

Barr Group has always been first and foremost about our people. Without the team working closely together, we simply couldn’t do what we do. We couldn’t be prouder to have been recognised by our industry peers for the FMB National Workplace Culture Award. This award gives us a chance to step back and thank our team for all they have done these last few years and look ahead to what more we can achieve together.

Every single Barr Group employee has contributed to our outstanding culture of togetherness, whether through feedback in team surveys, through restructuring our approach to diversity and inclusion, or through supporting our mental, physical and emotional health through fun-filled team outings, wellbeing sessions and expert talks. Our Charity and Community Programme has enabled us to get more involved with our local community – allowing our team “togetherness” to reach beyond the confines of the organisation.

We are all proud of how far the Barr Group team has come, and we’re really delighted to celebrate our progress with this Federation of Master Builders award.

“Barr Group has shown how putting people first transforms a company," says Brian Berry, Chief Executive of the FMB. "From apprentices through to directors, they’ve created clear career paths, invested in wellbeing, and fostered a supportive, inclusive culture. They’re setting the standard for how a modern construction business at the top can look and feel.”

Ten Barr Group team members headed up to the National MBAs in Manchester on Friday. Training & Apprentice Coordinator Charlie Barr and Director Adam Mullins were joined by site representatives Scott Wolfendale, Paul Baker and apprentice site carpenter Stan Turner, as well as Contracts Manager Charles Long, Finance & HR Administrator Claire Milner, Commercial Manager Paul Gearing, Pre-construction Manager Luke Rand and Head of Communications Annie Pearson. These are just a few of the people who have helped Barr Group take giant steps forward.

“We're going to celebrate with the whole team next Thursday, at our annual curry night, where colleagues from over 20 sites, the workshop and the office will raise a glass to the power of workplace togetherness,” says Adam Mullins, Commercial Director.

We would like to thank the amazing Lighthouse Charity (of whom Barr Group are a dedicated supporter), the superb FMB events team, and so many people from Barr Group who have worked their socks off – alongside their day jobs - to make Barr Group an ever more inclusive, supportive, rewarding, and above all, fun place to work.
