Barr Group x Thomley partnership
All spruced up and set for a summer of fun!
At the start of 2026, Barr Group formed a long-term charity partnership with Thomley, a magical "place to be" in the Buckinghamshire countryside.
Thomley offers a wide range of activities and facilities for people of all abilities and disabilities.
Through the Barr Group charity and community programme, every employee is offered one paid day each year to work for a charity organisation. Realising that this initiative would only really work if we had a dedicated partner, we reached out to several local charities.
When members of our charity and community working group, David, Alex and Craig, visited Thomley late in 2025, they felt an immediate connection... it is impossible to visit Thomley without it capturing your heart! Operations Manager Anna Capitani gave them a full site tour, sharing her passion for the organisation as they went. “If cut, I would bleed Thomley green!” she admitted. Anna put together a list of jobs the site urgently needed to operate safely in the short term, as well as a wishlist of ideas to improve and enhance the Thomley visitor offering in the future.

Through our Thomley partnership, we hope to make a real difference, developing as a team and having some fun along the way. Over consecutive Mondays in April, a team of Barr Group volunteers rolled up their sleeves and got sprucing! Fences, patios and pathways were repaired, equipment was cleaned and resurfaced, and outdoor infrastructure was made safe for the busy months ahead. Thomley’s own maintenance team were delighted to have reinforcements... it was proving a mammoth task to meet health and safety requirements across the huge site.
We would like to say a massive thank you to Aylesbury Plant Hire and Forge Timber & Building Supplies for providing the equipment and materials we needed to get Thomley shipshape. The site is now ready to fly through its safety inspections and is set for a summer of fun!

Back at Barr Group HQ, we are turning our minds to the next exciting Thomley intervention. If you are a Barr Build project partner and would be interested in offering your specialist services for a larger structural project (currently in early planning stages), we would love to hear from you. We are likely to need architectural, structural engineering and electrical assistance, as well as materials and plant hire support.
To stay operational, the Thomley team are committed to an enormous fundraising goal every year... a demanding and never-ending task. If you can help, either as a volunteer or as a financial contributor, please contact Thomley directly.
