Building the future with apprenticeships
National Apprenticeship Week 2025

As we celebrate National Apprenticeship Week 2025 (10–16 February), we take immense pride in showcasing our talented apprentices and the vital role they play in shaping the future of construction.
This year’s theme, ‘Skills for Life’, perfectly aligns with our commitment to equipping young professionals with the expertise, confidence, and resilience to thrive in the industry for years to come.
At the heart of our apprenticeship programme are four dedicated apprentice carpenters: Josh Barr (no relation), Joe Binnee, Toby Kearney, and Stan Turner.
Each of these individuals is gaining invaluable hands-on experience while working on high-quality construction projects across the region. Their journey reflects the essence of ‘Skills for Life’, developing craftsmanship, problem-solving abilities, and teamwork that will serve them throughout their careers.
Josh Barr and Stan Turner are pictured working on first-fix carpentry at one of our projects in West Oxfordshire.

Josh Barr, Year 3 Apprentice

At Barr Build, our apprentices follow a structured learning pathway that combines practical site experience with formal education, ensuring they gain both theoretical knowledge and hands-on expertise.
The Diploma in Carpentry and Joinery, studied at Buckinghamshire College Group, provides a solid grounding in the skills required to excel in the trade.
The Carpentry & Joinery Apprenticeship Programme, delivered in partnership with Abingdon & Witney College's Bicester Construction Skills Centre, balances on-the-job training with academic coursework, ensuring a well-rounded development.
Every apprentice at Barr Build is supported by experienced professionals, offering guidance, knowledge, and real-world insights that enhance their learning experience.

Stan Turner, Year 1 Apprentice

For those considering a career in construction, an apprenticeship offers a direct route into the industry with numerous benefits. Apprentices gain industry-recognised qualifications while receiving a salary, allowing them to earn while they learn. The hands-on experience ensures they develop practical skills by working on live construction projects from day one.
One-on-one mentorship from seasoned professionals provides personalised guidance, helping apprentices build confidence and refine their skills. With industry-respected certifications, apprentices can progress into leadership roles or specialise in specific fields.
Whether you are an aspiring carpenter, bricklayer, or decorator, our apprenticeship programme provides the perfect opportunity to learn from industry experts, build essential skills, and start a fulfilling career in construction.

As National Apprenticeship Week 2025 celebrates ‘Skills for Life’, we encourage young individuals to seize the opportunity to join a profession that values craftsmanship, innovation, and long-term career growth.
