The Ridings

Henley-on-Thames, Berkshire

Working to the architectural designs of Richard Parr Associates, Barr Build added a rear wing to this period property forming a contemporary wrap around glazed extension.

Set in the Berkshire countryside, the Barr Build team worked to turn this cottage style residence into a stunning contemporary family home. The works involved a complete structural remodel to the rear of the house, as well as a full internal refurbishment.

Through reconfiguring the whole rear section of the property, The Ridings went from traditional boxed-in spaces to a series of living zones that could be adapted to meet the needs of our client's ever-changing requirements.

The property is now set up for home working, family leisure time, large-scale entertaining and everything in between. The build was structured to support extensive architectural glazing which wraps the entire rear facade of the property.

Our client was heavily involved in the finishes throughout, making The Ridings renovation a rewarding and truly collaborative project.

“Barr Build are really current, really on the pulse and they understand what the client is looking to achieve, and that in itself is priceless.”
Maddi Sharkey, Client

Structural

SIPS panels and a zinc roof were combined to create a strong, energy efficient shell for the L-shaped single-storey extension. A steel frame supports the uninterrupted extensive glazing across the rear ground floor facade of the property.

Aesthetic

The extended section was designed to complement the main house, whilst remaining diminutive and understated. The continuous L-shaped glazing reflects the woodland and paddocks beyond, creating a focal point whether open or closed.
