The Old Fox
West Oxfordshire
PROJECT TYPE: Direct to Client
ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN: Henda Knobel
STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING: SOLID
OVERVIEW: The Old Fox, a public house until the 1980s, underwent significant structural restoration work, as well as the addition of a new two-storey extension. Careful heritage-approved interventions included raising ceilings and lowering floor levels to give the required head height for comfortable living. Restoration of a 300-year-old chimney stack, reinstation of the original fireplace, heritage-approved replacement of doors and windows, and two replacement staircases served to modernise the property's infrastructure. The result is a streamlined, cohesive residence which has stayed true to the heritage and culturally significant history of the site.
