Northend Farmhouse
Buckinghamshire
PROJECT TYPE: Direct to Client
ARCHITECTURE: Various
INTERIOR DESIGN: Client / Last Interior Design
OVERVIEW: Extensive restoration and enhancement works to a Grade II-listed village residence, carried out over four separate work phases.
Interventions have included the manufacture and installation of heritage-matched windows and doors, repairs to the centuries-old joinery and panelling, and a plumbing and electrical overhaul. The upper storey was sensitively adapted, converting the space into usable accommodation, with layout and finishes by Last Interior Design. The original kitchen underwent the removal of a retrofit concrete floor and a subfloor excavation, increasing the limited head height and futureproofing through the use of a breathable limecrete base, relieving damp issues and protecting the fabric of the property. In addition, bathroom renovations to the considered specification of Last Interior Design and a bespoke kitchen refit by Barr Kitchens were part of the multiphase improvements.
The most recent intervention was the renovation and extension of a timber-framed outbuilding. The structure was upgraded to a sustainably built, self-sufficient annexe and garaging. An air source heat pump alongside deep insulation supports independent living quarters, including a separate bedroom, living room, kitchenette, and bathroom. A redbrick skirt and feather-edged latch cladding mirror the original structure, and a glazed end to the additional section gives a full-height view of the gardens and matched redbrick patio, laid in a traditional formation.
