Business Development Manager
Full-Time
The Business Development Manager supports the smooth running of the preconstruction function and plays an important role in helping the business secure work.
Purpose & Objectives
The role focuses on managing enquiries, coordinating bids, supporting the estimating process, and maintaining strong communication with both internal teams and clients.
By organising information, preparing high-quality submissions, and keeping key stakeholders updated, the role helps ensure the company presents itself professionally, responds efficiently to opportunities, and maintains a consistent pipeline of projects.
Bid & Estimating
• Taking initial enquiries and populating internal systems.
• Clearly communicate new enquiries with the Pre-Construction Manager at, or soon after, the point of contact.
• Assist with pre-qualification questionnaires and enquiry information.
• Assist with obtaining fee proposals from external Estimators / Cost Consultants and provide feedback to the Pre-Construction Manager.
• Organise internal bid meetings with the estimating team. Start, mid and adjudication.
• Work closely with the Pre-Construction manager, estimators, contract managers, engineers, and architects to ensure estimates meet project goals.
• Assist the bid process, which includes liaising with the Architect and/or PQS, establishing the bid requirements for submission, agreeing responsibility for the bid requirements, setting up and chairing tender launch, mid-bid and settlement meetings, liaising with the Pre-Construction Manager to ensure the bid is submitted to company standards and on time.
• Assist in the preparation and submission of bid proposals to clients and stakeholders.
• Chairing the weekly estimating meeting and circulating action points to the Pre-Construction Manager and Directors within 24 hours of the meeting.
• Assist with following up on tender submissions and updating the team accordingly.
• Co-ordination of tender launch meetings, mid-tender meetings, adjudications, marketing, and creative design.
• Coordinate and lead on presentation packs, information packs and tender submissions.
• Create and announce “new project win” notification imagery and promotion to the team.
Client Relationship Management
• Manage and nurture relationships with potential and existing clients to ensure satisfaction and retention.
• Identify opportunities to upsell or cross-sell additional products or services.
Performance Tracking and Reporting
• CRM System for managing interactions with customers, tracking leads, sales opportunities, and customer support issues, improving customer service and sales efficiency.
• Monitor and track the progress of business development activities and sales targets.
• Prepare regular reports on business development performance and present findings to senior management.
• Provide quarterly company internal updates
• Analyse enquiry to project conversion rates and estimator cost data to support budget control, identify trends, and help guide commercial and strategic business direction.
• Use insights from conversion analysis to contribute to forecasting, pipeline planning, and continuous improvement within the preconstruction function.
Business Development & Networking
• Attend and actively participate in external company networking events to help drive new business opportunities.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with potential clients, partners, and industry contacts to support long-term business growth.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in business administration. Marketing or a related field.
• Master’s degree or relevant certifications (e.g. Certified Business Development Professional) are preferable.
• First Aid at Work.
• Driving licence.
Experience
Minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in business development, sales, or a related role.
Proven track record of achieving sales targets and driving business growth.
Experience in the construction industry is preferred.
Management of systems, processes, and people.
Skills
